Re: 2008 Roc Dart Asphalt Modified Tour Structure Update
2008 RACE OF CHAMPIONS DART ASPHALT MODIFIED TOUR SCHEDULE UPDATED. ONE REGION COMBINED WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP TRAIL TO DETERMINE OVERALL TITLE IN 2008. MORE POINT FUND MONEY UP FOR GRABS WITH LESS RACES IN ’08.
BINGHAMTON, NY…Changes have been made to the Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour structure for the upcoming season. With the recent announcement that Wall Township Speedway would not be in operation this season changes were warranted in the previously released format for the tour. This year’s tour will focus on one region with a championship trail to determine the overall 2008 tour champion.
For the teams following the tour the 2008 point fund amount has increased over 2007 with two less races on tap. The point fund for the upcoming season will be nearly $30,000 for the twelve events on the schedule. Race of Champions Director Andrew Harpell commented, “We made the changes to reflect the recent developments at Wall, with that situation we could not have a central region comprised of only three events.” He added, “We are excited about this new format as the teams will have less events to have to focus on and will be rewarded with a greater point fund.” “With the uncertain economic status our nation is facing obviously many businesses are cutting costs, we are pleased to be able to increase our point fund for 2008.”
With the change of format for the Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour another exciting development came about in recent days. The Chemung Speedrome will host the first event in the championship trail with a 150 lap race on tap. The race at the “drome” will certainly start off the championship point race with a bang. The race will be the first of five events on the championship trail. This year’s overall champion will earn $6,000 for the title. A separate point fund has also been established for the seven regular season events with the point leader of that region earning an added $1,000. This could bring the overall champions total to $7,000. All of the previously released race dates have remained the same. The only changes have been made in the formatting of the point system.
For the teams following the tour the increases certainly be welcomed. Harpell commented on the increases, “This season Oswego Speedway committed to 100 lap events that pay a better purse, Chemung Speedrome will now host a 150 lap event with a better purse.” “We have worked very hard in increasing the revenue for our teams in addition to the point fund for this season.”
Like in years past teams will be awarded five point bonuses for heat wins along with a twenty-five point bonus for attending all of the tour events on the schedule. After the completion of the final regular season event at Spencer Speedway on August 1st teams will then begin the championship trail to determine the overall tour champion.
