SUNOCO RACE
OF CHAMPIONS WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 14, 15 AND 16 AT
The Late Model 50 is always
an exciting event during the Sunoco Race of Champions Weekend and this year
should be no different. Last year Todd Hoddick put on a great display in winning the 50 lap
showdown. The number of pre-race entries
for this year’s race is at the highest since the event moved to Oswego
Speedway.
In addition to the base
winners share of $2,500 a bonus has been put into place for Mid-Atlantic Auto
Racing Alliance (MAARA) drivers that are in competition. If a MAARA driver should win the 50 lap race
they will receive a $2,000 bonus raising the winners share to $4,500. If a MAARA driver does not win the event the
highest finishing MAARA Series driver will earn a $1,000 bonus. In addition, if a MAARA driver does not win
the event, the second and third highest finishing MAARA drivers will earn a
$500 bonus each.
In order for a driver to be
considered a “MAARA competitor” they simply had to compete in one previous
MAARA series event in 2006. Currently,
seventy-one drivers have competed in the first three MAARA Series events in
2006. All of those drivers would be
eligible for this bonus money. This
bonus includes only the first three series events that have been held to date.

The available bonus money has
been put forth by an anonymous sponsor that is a big supporter of Northeast
Late Model racing.
With regard to the bonus Harpell remarked, “We appreciate this gentleman
stepping up as a long time supporter of the Late Model class, they just wanted
to provide the MAARA and Western, NY teams an extra incentive for this event –
we are happy to offer it to the teams.”
